Mike Doolin sent us these photos of a newly made double cutaway guitar that has Rodgers tuners installed.
Mike is a Luthire of Handmade Double-Cutaway Acoustic Guitars. This particular model uses the light coloured sapwood of African black wood as a sharp two-tone contrast to the deep black. This theme is continued and reflected in the tuner buttons to give a uniform uniqueness to the instrument. The Sterling Silver of the tuner side-plates also adds to the appearance.
Mike authors the following paragraphs.
The top is curly California redwood. Aside from the striking looks, I think redwood is one of the best sounding top woods available, sort of a cross between sitka spruce and red cedar.
The rose is abalone, more specifically Ablam, which is a laminate of thin layers of abalone. The binding is curly myrtle wood from Southern Oregon.
